Abstract

Aim. To determine the dynamics of functional and hematological parameters as possible manifestations of adaptive responses in primary school students under conditions of systematic implementation of a set of antistress-oriented physical exercises.

Materials and Methods. The study involved 30 primary school students. Functional status and peripheral blood parameters were assessed before and after the period of systematic implementation of a set of antistress-oriented physical exercises. Heart rate (HR), systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), peripheral blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂), and selected parameters of the erythrocyte, leukocyte, and platelet components of peripheral blood were determined. Subjective psycho-emotional status was assessed using the “Emotion Thermometer” psychometric technique.

Results. During the observation period, positive changes in selected indicators of the students’ functional status were identified. Resting HR decreased significantly from 92.8 ± 1.1 to 80.1 ± 0.96 beats/min (p < 0.01). Peripheral blood oxygen saturation increased significantly from 94.8 ± 0.6% to 98.2 ± 0.7% (p < 0.01). Statistically significant changes in blood pressure were also observed: SBP decreased to 105.0 ± 1.8 mmHg (p < 0.05), and DBP decreased to 65.0 ± 1.2 mmHg (p < 0.01). Statistically significant changes were also found in selected peripheral blood parameters, including an increase in the reticulocyte count from 0.45 ± 0.08% to 0.74 ± 0.12% (p < 0.05), as well as changes in indicators of the erythrocyte and leukocyte components. Express monitoring using the “Emotion Thermometer” technique demonstrated a 40.0% increase in the proportion of children within the psycho-emotional comfort zone and a decrease in the proportion of students with a high level of distress to 3.3%.

Conclusions. The systematic implementation of a set of antistress-oriented physical exercises was accompanied by positive changes in psycho-emotional, functional, and selected hematological parameters in primary school students. The most pronounced changes were observed in resting HR, peripheral blood oxygen saturation, selected indicators of the erythrocyte and leukocyte components of peripheral blood, and subjective assessment of psycho-emotional status. The overall pattern of the identified changes may reflect favorable adjustments in the adaptive responses of children’s bodies under conditions of systematic, dosed physical activity.
