Abstract

Under the current conditions of martial law in Ukraine, the search for effective pedagogical approaches aimed not only at the physical development of children but also at the formation of their social competencies, the ability to interact, support one another, and work as a team becomes particularly relevant. Physical education has significant potential for the integrated development of primary school students’ personalities. The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of a program for the formation of social competencies implemented through physical education on the level of physical fitness of primary school students under martial law conditions.

The study is based on the results of a pedagogical experiment during which an author’s program was implemented and its effectiveness in improving students’ physical qualities was experimentally verified. The assessment of the program’s effectiveness was carried out using physical fitness tests recommended in the guidelines for assessing students’ learning achievements within the framework of the New Ukrainian School. Two groups of 4th-grade students were formed: an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 30 boys and 30 girls. A comparative analysis of the results obtained in the experimental and control groups demonstrated a positive dynamic in the physical fitness indicators of students in the experimental group who participated in the program. It was found that in the experimental group all indicators of physical qualities development in both girls and boys improved statistically significantly.

The obtained results indicate the effectiveness of the developed program for the formation of social competencies through physical education and confirm the feasibility of its implementation in the educational process of primary school, particularly under martial law conditions, when both the physical fitness of children and the development of their social skills and ability to interact become especially important.
