Depression was and remains an urgent problem at the present time, causing significant medical and social consequences. There are several types of depression that have their own diagnostic criteria. In the modern health care system, the strategy of depression screening has a proper place, which ensures the beginning of adequate treatment and comprehensive rehabilitation in the early stage.
The study aimed to determine the percentage of patients with depression and those with suspected depression when visiting doctors and healthcare professionals.
Results of the study: patients with depression seek medical help with various complaints. The percentage of patients with depression ranges from 20% to 3%. Most people go to a physical therapist (20%), a cardiologist and an oncologist (18%), least of all to an ophthalmologist and a haematologist (4%), a dentist (3%). As for the percentage of patients with suspected depression, their number ranges from 42% (cancer patients) to 6% (dental patients).
The obtained results confirm the relevance of the chosen topic and highlight the need for screening for depression in patients at risk and patients with suspected depression.
