Abstract

Today, women's wrestling is developing rapidly on all continents. The tendency to increase rivalry and the number of participants in international tournaments is monitored with each subsequent Olympic cycle. The technical arsenal of techniques and the spectacle of matches in women's wrestling today are not inferior to free wrestling among men. In most Olympic teams, there are different approaches to the formation of the team composition, depending on various factors: economic, demographic, wrestling traditions in the country, etc. The purpose of our study was to determine the composition options of the leading Olympic national women's wrestling teams between Olympic cycles and their results. Research methods: analysis and synthesis, documentary method (analysis of competition protocols), comparison, methods of mathematical statistics. The 6 best Olympic teams in women's wrestling were selected for the study, which we determined based on the results of the team standings at the World Championships from 2003 to 2022 (Japan, USA,  China, Ukraine, Canada and Mongolia). The study of the variability of the national teams’ composition was based on the analysis of the repeatability of the participation of some athletes in the Olympic Games and the inclusion of new participants in the national teams. The results. It was found that the Chinese national team underwent the largest changes in the composition of the team in all five Olympic cycles (86.7%). Instead, the most stable composition was found in the national team of Japan, which during the 5 Olympic Games, in general, updated its composition only within 38.9%. At the same time, the Japanese team did not give up the first place even once, which highlights the highly effective and purposeful preparation for the Olympic Games. At the same time, the national teams of China, the USA, Canada, Ukraine, and Mongolia are worthy competition in the Olympic arena for the Japanese national team. These teams also have a fairly high-performance rate in women's wrestling in the Olympic arena.
